About the Project

KUSC Los Angeles and KDFC San Francisco are the two largest classical round-the-clock music radio stations in California, managed by USC Radio Group for 77 years. The company decided to make them closer to audiences and portable enough to enjoy masterpieces from any device in any location. The IDAP team created iOS, Android, and web applications to deliver convenient digital twins of real radio stations. iOS and Android mobile applications are extremely popular, allowing over 60,000+ listeners daily to stay on the same wave with KUSC and KDFC.

Product Idea

The initial idea was to provide a digital copy of KUSC and KDFC classical music radio stations to deliver a smooth experience to two different audiences from North and South California. Applications were created based on generous donations from radio station fans. IDAP has been covering the entire applications lifecycle for five years, helping perform a migration, increase scalability, add new functionality, and maintain applications in prod.

Key Features

01Player with Streams

The feature helps listeners to dive into streams, explore the world of classical music, and share their beloved pieces on social media anytime. Users can conveniently choose the stream they like with the integrated schedule of upcoming streams, updated in real-time. The player can also lull them to sleep by setting a timer that will switch the app into silent mode.

02Personalized UX

The application offers a personalized approach, enabling listeners to find a needed piece faster with track history. Users also can save all the details of pieces listened into favorites to find and download them using third-party services, like Spotify.

03Multi-platform streaming

Multi-platform nature enables listeners to enjoy KUSC music using platforms such as Apple TV & Chromecast with supported 4k resolutions and Carplay, allowing users to take favorite streams into travels.
